As someone who has owned a X70 and now a XF10, I can hopefully give you some help. I feel the XF10 is aimed at someone wanting to have as simple a camera as possible. Such as upgraders from mobile phones. Whilst the X70 has more features, the XF10 can be programmed to the users taste. The image quality on the XF10 is excellent. I was worried about the reviews of the auto focus but have not found them to be accurate. The auto focus isnt lightning fast, but quick enough. I have taken pictures of my 2 children, both under 12, playing football and the camera had no problems. I think the auto focus comments have been overexagerated, and not sure they are from actual users. I have seen plenty of comments from users of the XF10 saying they have no problems with auto focus. I believe it's an excellent camera, and you can not go wrong. But, everyone has different preferences so it's not for all. I have set the dials to my taste and I am more than confident I will get the shot more often than not. The size also means I can carry in my fleece or coat without really noticing it's there. I hope that helps.
it’s reading messages like yours that kills me...not in a negative way.
the camera will be my main camera
I’m coming from already previously owning different fuji x cameras (x100/s xe1/2 / T10) along with various m43 cameras..So I’m not coming from a cell phone comparison. I am looking for a camera with excellent IQ / fuji colors/ small and actually functional...there are just so many cons against the xf10 from different people...then there are people like yourself who come along and say that the camera works well, the AF is not as bad as everyone says and especially that the IQ is excellent ( guessing from the 24mp vs 16mp)
Does the inability to store settings cause a difficulty or problem for you?
Not being able to save settings it the one aspect of the camera I really do not like. However, I ofter use film simulation bracketing, and have used Fuji cameras so long I can alter settings quite quickly. If I am going to shoot certain things like landscapes, or say autumn like now, I dont need to alter much. Just set before I go and shoot, only changing the usual you would along the way such as aperture. I also purchased a adapter that sticks to the lens and enables filters. That is really handy for me personally.
