Anybody do this?

Yes, more often than not.

With a respectable collection of vintage lenses that I mainly acquired for bokeh traits over sharpness I often ponder which one will give me the desired look to create the mood I am after. I choose triplets for speckled highlights bubbles for happy/cheery look, smooth creamy bokeh for more peaceful settings, and quirky swirly bokeh lenses for mystery.

I am not always successful in capturing the mood because the subject and light are not cooperating with my vision but certainly I try to be selective of what lens to use for what image idea.
