4. There are probably a lot of people that buy this camera that never get around to buying an external flash unit.

I was one of those people, but I was impressed by Low Key Photography and I want to try it!

Unfortunately you are probably not who this camera was targeted at.

What are the options to return the camera?

Is there a possibility of returning the camera and upgrading?

Or . . . did you read my potential workaround?

Unfortunately, there is no option to return the camera. Yes, I read what you wrote, Thanks for that. I'll check in a little more detail about the flash issue for my camera and if I'm not happy, I'll upgrade ... or just buy a 200D - which was my original choice, but I didn't find it anywhere!

Do I need to know anything special about flashes and triggers or everything will work for me?

There are dumb triggers that rely on the center pin. Those are the types I got.

They do not transmit TTL information. So the external flash unit must be operated in either manual power mode, or the old (A)uto Thyristor mode. No TTL!!!

(This works fine for me for my old Vivitar 285HV flash units. Or when I rent old manual monolights.)

But the "Possible Workaround " I tried actually uses these dumb triggers. (Because that is what I had.) The thing is that it means you have to use the button on the dumb trigger as your shutter release button. Perhaps not the most comfortable option. But . . . when using external flash, perhaps not the end of the world.

The other option is the wireless TTL triggers. These triggers have the additional TTL pins that are around the center pin.

Cactus, Yonguo and Godox have these wireless TTL triggers.

I was originally looking at the Yongnuo for myself because it was cheap(er-ish).

I came across this article: https://petapixel.com/2019/05/06/godox-flash-firmware-updates-bring-support-for-canons-crippled-cameras/

But, Godox seems to have gotten their flash unit to work with Canon's center-pin-less hotshoe.

The question is, have they moved this compatibility over to their Godox wireless TTL trigger?

And will this allow the triggering of both TTL external flash units as well as dumb non-TTL external flash units (through the center pin on the external flash unit)?

I think these are the 2 questions that you need to find the answer to.

If the answer for both is yes, then that means you can use the Godox wireless TTL triggers to fire an off camera flash unit with your Canon 250D.

Maybe do a Google search, ask in the "Studio and Lighting Forum here. ", or send an email to Godox.

EDIT: Some one correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this Godox wireless trigger set (Godox X2C set? ) would be the one to ask Godox if it works with the Canon 250D, and allows the remote triggering of both a TTL flash unit as well as a dumb flash unit that only has a center pin.

Hope you find what you are looking for!

Take care & Happy Shooting!
