Yes, it's the dreaded Illuminator for the Sky Watcher Star Adventurer.

Got the idea from JayS_CT on another forum and although not tested in the field yet, should "do the job".

Quite a simple solution really, bypass one of the voltage limiting resistors to give more voltage to the LED. As the supply voltage is only 3v any way it shouldn't do the LED any harm, in fact I suspect that Sky Watcher deliberately dimmed the thing in the first place.

Remove the battery/cover. Open up the Illuminator by removing the label and then the four small screws that hold it to the mounting bracket.

Once inside you can see the LED etc. If you turn the PCB over you can see where the LED is soldered into the PCB. You want to solder a short wire onto the LED+ve wire and then onto the earth (+ve) that runs all the way around the outer edge of the PCB.

You can still turn it down if too bright but should certainly help with the extender on through the L bracket.

I should warn that this mod will void any warranty!
