I purchased topaz denoise earlier this year, but never really use it. This time it was a good test case and it delivered I guess. Still fiddling to get the best settings.

The default settings and "Auto" are way too aggressive. I usually start by choosing auto and reduce the values by 50% as a starting point. If using Topaz as a plugin to Photoshop CC it's easy to apply the Topaz on a separate layer and then you can use the history brush to remove/reduce the noise reduction on the bird to preserve the feather details and then fine tune with the opacity slider.
