Route 66 - Meteor Crater - Nevada Desert - Petrified Forest

For those who haven’t traveled the US by automobile, thought I’d post a couple recent shots I took doing my cross country trek recently. Due to COVID-19, my beloved bearded dragon is unable to fly (due to all airlines suspending all non-cat/dog animals flying) so when it came time for me to relocate I choose to drive rather than fly rather than wait for my car to catch up to me and have to say goodbye to a family pet. This also enabled me to ensure things like my Canon Pro-10 printer (which was also in the back of the car with me) could also safely traverse the continental United States in one piece I might add.

I do suggest taking lots of rest stops along the way to break it up. I found 2-3 hour mark was the trick.

All shots processed in DPP4, full resolution, JPEG compression - 9

Our beloved pet bearded dragon, the reason I did this trek really as flying is so much easier than a cross country drive...

Backside of the hills opposite of Walker Lake, NV; last ray of sunlight

Presumably abandoned mining facility of some sort - Nevada desert

Low angle shot of random foilage.

Goldfield radio museum at night; handheld. IBIS would've been nice to bring the shutter and ISO under control but the R5/6 are still hard to come by at the time of this post

Meteor Crater, AZ

It cost me $22 to go into see the crater and is about a 10 minute meteor off the main drive. Although not as interesting as other destinations, see point A about taking frequent stops when doing long stretches of driving. Having something to see, and clean bathrooms, are not to be underestimated...

American Flag contrasted against the desert. Intentionally zoomed to crop out clashing subjects

Somehow NASA and astronauts have to do with a large crater in the middle of Arizona. They're welcome attractions even though I personally disagree as NASA deals with what's in space, not the ground even though it was a large rock from space that caused it, NASA wasn't responsible

I have no idea why, but something said to take this picture. Decided to monochrome it.

Front entrance, taken while leaving

Discarded advertisement for the onsite food establishment. Didn't have a chance to try, can't comment one way or another on the quality of the offerings
