Autofocus for remote release when photographing birds on feeders

Hope you can help with this one and it's not too dumb a question:

Nikon Z6 set up on a tripod with remote shutter release.

Have framed to include 2 bird feeders at slightly different distances, and want to capture birds on either of the two.  Have tried various focus modes and settings, but can't get the autofocus to shift between the two feeders, regardless of what activity is happening on the other feeder.

How do i set things up so the camera can detect and focus on a bird on either feeder?

Note: I know i can set focus point using the Snapbridge app but (a) this is too laggy for my needs and (b) I can't use the remote release at the same time as Snapbridge.

Thanks in advance for your help
