Face Priority in Multi-metering- A6600 - reliable?

Just starting to use a new A6600.  Shooting faces with the 55-210mm at Covid distance, AF set to Face Eye Prority ON and Face Priority in Multi-Metering ON while in the Multi-metering mode, I found exposure to be somewhat erratic shooting many photos in the same light with the same recognized face.  I had ISO set to "Fast" adjust for lens focal length, (which, btw, puts the SS too high, but that's a live-and-learn thing.)

Has anyone else seen erratic and occasional overexposure using the Face Priority in Multi-metering mode.  It seems like a good technological idea. It just didn't seem to work right. My next fall back would be the "spot exposure follows spot AF" function, but that requires me to do slightly more work, and, according to the book and my testing, doesn't follow the AF tracking.
