Weird artifact in Photoshop I can't remove

I created an image in LR using Merge to HDR Panorama and spent a lot of time editing it after opening it in Photoshop. I just noticed this weird artifact in the upper left corner:

and I can't get rid of it. It can't be painted over, cloned over using the clone stamp tool, or cropped out (it travels with the photo in it's reduced size). I don't know if it was present when I started editing, or if something I did in processing created it. Anybody know what this is and how to remove it?
