Sigma has reverse engineered those too. The correction profiles are just simple data tables.

How does the camera get these tables? Is the lens acting as a dock for the camera here?

O.k., that's a valid counter argument.

It doesn't explain why all the Sigma Art lenses work without any problems on the new R6 and new R5,.

Sigma already fixed their issues via the 1DX III updates.

where other third party manufactures do have compatibility problems, and don't have in camera lens corrections.

Sigma is just doing a better job. Sigma is much more heavily invested in the EF ecosystem. Tamron seems to more interested in native E mount lenses right now.

Possibly. We'll see when a newer digic arrives. As long the successor of the R5 hasn't arrived it won't affect me anyway.
