While the Sigmas are great, it is true that they are not native lenses for Canon. It is for Sony E mount as the lens communication protocols are open.

Interesting take on the wording.

To me, native is the same mount and same brand.

Sigman, Tamron, Tokina, ETC are all considered third party to me, no matter how well it works with the camera.

For Canon mount lenses, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc need to measure, test, and reverse engineer existing Canon brand lenses to figure out all electrical and mechanical details.

For Sony mount lenses, Sony provides a complete dossier of all electrical and mechanical details.  A Sigma engineer is working from the exact same packet of spec's as a Sony engineer.

If Sony changes a protocol, Sony tells Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc. that the change is coming so they can prepare firmware updates in advance.  If Canon changes a protocol, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc. find out about the change when they get a flood of user complaints that their lenses no longer work.

The key difference is that Sony wants all 3rd party lenses to function properly.  Canon could not care less.
