Just because things have not been broken does not mean the two are cooperating.

To me it is much more likely that they are cooperating than not.

Sigma also just released some new firmware for the three EF-M mount lenses

And also for the three L-mount lenses.

for "focus ring adjustment functionality".

The m4/3 and E mount versions did not need the update.

Wrong!

This is about added functionality. Not about "need". The m4/3 and E mount lenses did not GET the update. (A big difference there.) Neither did they get the new Sigma UD-11 dock. That dock has only been made for two mounts (L-Mount and EF-M-Mount)(until now).

"By connecting the USB DOCK UD-11 to a compatible lens or an accessory, photographers can configure the following settings of the corresponding product via the exclusive SIGMA Optimization Pro software

1- Firmware updates

2- MF function operation timing adjustment

Users can customize the rotation sensitivity of focus ring on MF mode*1.

  • *1 Firmware update of the les may be required"

I am not sure about m4/3, but Sony E moumt does not need the dock. Sony users can just use a USB cable and connect their camera to a PC in place of the dock.

So how do Sony (and m4/3) users adjust "the rotation sensitivity of focus ring on MF mode"?

Did you not read what I wrote above? Sony users just use their camera instead of a separate dock. You still use the SIGMA Optimization Pro software, but instead of connecting a dock to your computer, you just connect your camera to your computer and your camera acts as the dock.

Never heard about it. Do you have a source? I know you can update firmware through the Sony body. But I have never heard that you can use SIGMA Optimization Pro with the body (as a dock) to read and set other lens features.
Also weird that the manual for "SIGMA Optimization Pro" does not mention this posibility.

And it still does not explain why this new firmware is "needed" for the M system and not for Sony E and m4/3 as you claim.

I am not sure how this works for m4/3.
