I only read "The Tombs of Atuan" and it was dark /completely dark almost all the time - Now that would probably be impossible to film Have had Neil Gaiman in my lists for a very long time. Will try it.

I'd forgotten about the Tombs, in general her books contrast inner and outer light and darkness, rather like Tolkien who uses the light in darkness quite a lot.

Neal Stephenson, Ian W Salisbury and the inimitable Terry Pratchett maybe?
