Start with the glass and work your way back.
II recently purchased an RP, matched with the RF 24-105 F4 L, for use as my main stills camera. Nothing in the M system can match the quality of this RF standard zoom lens.
My M6 MkII, matched with the EF-M 11-22, will now become a backup used primarily for 4k video. Nothing in the R system can match the price of this M wide angle zoom lens.
Camera bodies come and go, glass can last forever.
Exactly. Everyone gets hot and bothered about the latest bodies, but outside of huge updates (IBIS or big AF changes), the updates are marginal.
The updates are marginal outside of huge updates. Outside of huge updates the other updates are always marginal. That's why some people focus a bit more on the huge updates....
What's more important is do the lenses suit your needs? The EF-M has a compelling and affordable line-up at the short end (Sigma trio, 11-22, 22 f/2 and 32 f/1.4), but is that enough for you?
Yes, the adapted EF/EF-S midrange zooms are pretty good, but the new Nikkor Zs and Canon RF lenses are like nothing we have seen before.
Some RF lenses are a whole lot better, but it really depends on the lens.
It's up to you to answer that question.
A used EF 24-70mm f/2.8 mkII + RF 85mm f/2.0 won't break the bank as it comes to glass. It's about 1680 euro. The f/1.4 primes are f/2.2 equivalent in stead of f/2.8, but if you can live with that difference (and hey, at 22mm/35mm the zoom is better) the 24-70mm + 85mm replaces an 16mm f/1.4 (450 euro new), a 22mm f/2.0 (200 euro new), a 30 or 32mm f/1.4 (470 euro new), and the 56mm f/1.4 (430 euro new).
The ef-m bundle is 1550 euro, and that's without any zoom..... The EF 24-70mm f/2.8 mkII + RF 85mm f/2.0 is 1680 euro. The difference is 110 euro only. The EF zoom is big, but it will save you a whole lot of lens changes, and for ef-m there's simply no zoom available that matches it's IQ, while for the RF mount affordable primes are coming while the 35mm f/1.8 is already there.
