Luminance or colour

As a BIF shooter I tend to see some sky noise even at relatively low isos. It's not a great problem. Providing I can isolate the sky I just take a heavy handed approach to noise reduction and get the results I am looking for. I'm just wondering if there is any reason why I should be a bit more sensitive. I don't actually know whether sky noise is luminance or colour noise and if I am going to avoid just hitting all the sliders hard to the right, how do I tell the difference. I can usually tell the difference on darker subjects but would appreciate any advice as to what type of noise I am seeing in my skys.
