Ball head on a horizontal arm?

Situation is I'm using a Manfrotto head that came with another tripod attached to a horizontal arm using tethered capture, right now it is kind of janky trying to use the power switch knocks the camera out of alignment, I can't get the plate tight enough.  A geared head almost makes sense but the controls would be too far away. What works is using a piece of foam board and shimming the board to adjust.

Camera is a Nikon 710 with a 95mm macron lens with a battery grip extension.

(Also if anyone knows of a way to turn off the auto-rotate in live view with capture one, for some reason if I point the camera straight down live view goes nuts. much appreciated)

I'm looking at either the RRS BH-55 (https://www.reallyrightstuff.com/bh55-ball-head) or BH-40 (https://www.reallyrightstuff.com/bh40-ball-head) Is this too much horizontal stress?
