I just simply removed the wifi button contact plate from the white glue foil. It can be put back later if needed. A programmable button could be a really useful feature here, but I'm not sure the Canon going to provide a firmware fix for this issue. They had already solved in M200: the wifi button is replaced with video. The whole modification was took less than 15 minutes.

Couldn't you put instead a thin plastic foil between these contacts? (I just look the photo, I don't know the difficulty or other side effects of your method).
