Pentax MX Stuck Closed Without Rewind Shaft – Help!

Hi all,

I'm quite new to film – so new that I was unable to avoid this blunder until it was too late.

I have a Pentax MX that shipped with rewind shaft that has a stripped top screw (it connects the top of the shaft to the knob + lever). One day, I randomly found the knob assembly was gone – so I ordered a replacement. I finished the roll of film and was able to get the roll out with the replacement knob, but somehow it won't go back on the screw to the shaft again. Then, in my, 'film-is-evacuated!' elation, and with the shaft out of the camera... the back door closed with an open hole where the whole assembly should be.

So my question to you fine folks is – how can I open up the back of the camera, without forcing it, without a rewind shaft in the camera?

Thanks in advance – and sorry I have to ask in the first place.
