Auto DNG conversion?

Since I take RAW photos with my Nikon Z50, I convert them with the Adobe DNG Converter so I can work on them in my ancient version (6.14) of Lightroom. I did that about a week ago.

Several days later, I had a paid photo job and I used one of my Nikon D750s. When I got home, I loaded my files into Lightroom, and in a minute or so, a message popped up saying that my photos were finished being converted to DNG.

The message came and went so quickly, that I thought I might have been imagining things. But when I looked, all of my pictures indeed had been converted to DNG!

I never knew that Lightroom would do this automatically. Too bad it doesn't do it for the Z50.

But my first concern is, will I lose any quality by having my D750's NEF files converted to DNGs? I may be wrong, but it seems my camera profiles are intact even as DNGs.

Is there any way to turn off this automatic conversion in Lightroom?

Thanks.
