But why go to all the trouble (and take the extra time) to focus manually when the AF is so darn good?

You might as well use AF you've got it. But the manual focussing scale might even be quicker for landscape, so AF is could be an unnecessary expense for that purpose for those lenses. (I might be biassed, as a child I only had access to scale focussing cameras.)

You make use of what you have. When I shot film, I too used the focusing scale a lot (missed it on the newer lenses), at least until AF got so good .

but, revenons à nos moutons, the original subject was landscape lenses.

Mais oui! That nice Rokinon 12 (Recti) is still on my radar!

I really like mine, but the 11-22mm is the lens that lives on my camera as it's so much more versatile.

Well, as I mentioned initially, the Rokinon would be for Astro. I too like the 11-22 for scenics.

I've carved a depth of field scales into the red ring of my fisheye, I'll have to do the same thing for my 12mm.

Great idea! It's too bad all these fancy new lenses are fly-by-wire .

Had a look last night. The focussing ring doesn't move in quite the same way as if it were a unit focussing lens, so the divisions that would be right for near infinity focus would be wrong for near minimum focus.
