Can the 100-500 replace both the 100-400 and S/T 150-600?

The Canon 100-500 is quite an expensive lens, but since it reaches 100mm past the 100-400mm, it seems to me that it could replace not only the 100-400 but also the Sigma or Tamron 150-600mm lens at the same time, mitigating its high MSRP. Sure, it loses 100mm at the long end, but then you can put on the RF 1.4x to solve that, right? Okay, I do realize you lose 1-1.5 stops of light at the long end, but it seems to be an alright compromise for the size and weight savings.
