I do street photography with a relatively large camera and only felt uncomfortable once. Do you have as thick a skin as this photographer?

The size of the camera has two aspects:

  • making the photographer comfortable, and
  • making the subject/people in the environment comfortable

I prefer to use a smaller camera for both reasons. A smaller camera is more enjoyable to carry around. And a smaller camera is less noticeable, so most people don't even see it. This means subjects are more likely to remain comfortable in their natural setting. On the other hand, if you want to be a disruptive photographer, you can always get into people's faces like Tatsuo Suzuki. It just depends on what kind of photographer you want to be, For the most part, I think most street photographers want to be the quiet observer on the street, rather than being the instigator of discomfort.
