Do You Ever Selectively Sharpen the CMY Channels?
1

Capture NX-D (Nikon's version of Silkypix) seems to allow individual sharpening of RGB and CMY channels in the Unsharp Mask panel.

I tried using the function for a few minutes and it seems interesting but before I dive in, I want to make sure that sharpening color channels is a useful strategy. Up till now all I've done is global sharpening with layer masks to paint out areas that I don't want sharpened.

Question 1: What would a typical use for this kind of sharpening be? If you have a field of daisies would you crank up the sharpening of the Yellow channel? And what, god help us, happens to its RGB counterpart if you sharpen one of the CMY channels?

Question 2: Is sharpening color channels an old technique that's fallen out of favor or is it the cutting edge of image processing?
