Mountaineering in the Southern Alps with my GR II

here are some shots from my last mountaineering trip. Our objective was to climb the west face of the Sirac (3,441m), a majestic summit in the Southern Alps, France.

I left my heavy Pentax gear in the house and only took the GRII for the trip which is my climbing camera of choice.

We first had a long hike around the moutain with 3 passes to cross before reaching the mountain hut.

Close view of the Sirac South face :

Sirac West face and Vallonpierre Glacier as seen from Col de Vallonpierre, the highest and last of the three passes (stitched panorama)

A sheep herd drinking in the lake beneath the huge NW face

After a short night, during the climb of the Glacier just before sunrise

In the shadow of the Sirac

Climbing above the glacier

Last ridge before the summit

Time to go down

thanks for looking,
