Olympus 12-45mm in lowish light

Hi everyone,

I have the 14-42ez kit zoom, it's OK in bright day light but in my experience struggles everywhere else.

I want to get either the 12-40 or 12-45, I'd prefer the size and weight of the 12-45 but am worried it'll struggle just as much in lower light. For example if out for a walk and trying to take a photo of someone in some shade from a tree in summer, the 14-42mm shots I take end up with a lot of noise.

Will the 12-45 be any better at f4? The 12-100 doesn't have any complaints from anyone ever and is f4, or have I missed something?

How low does light have to be to benefit from the fixed f2.8 in the 12-40?

Happy to use a fast prime indoors but would like a flexible zoom for outdoors

I hope this makes some sense, would appreciate anyone's advice or insight,

Cheers

Dom
