Hi, my only advice is to take the time to learn about the settings, experiment with them, set up the camera to suit your requirements and then practice them. This is particularly important for AF-C. If you want some AF-C inspiration for some of the best pooch action shots see Mike's thread (all credit to him), which includes settings further down in the thread, here:

I have used these settings to great success for running dogs, an action kit surfer (my son) and a racing cyclist (my daughter). Hope that helps and good luck.

Hello there,

Thank you for the advice, I tried the settings today and this is what I came up with,h

Theres allways things that can be improved to the get the perfect shot.

Hi, lovely dog. Great shot, but I wonder where the focus point was placed.  I zoomed in to 100% and the sharpest point appears to be on the collar ring and the fur around it rather than on the eyes.

You say in an other reply that you used single focus point, with which I agree and use it too, but wonder what size was used. I use settings in the link I gave above, but use AF Mode single point, smallest box size (rather than zone focus) and AF-C focus Priority.  I place the focus box on the part of the subject I wish to be the sharpest.  The dog is trotting on a predicable line, so placement should be relatively easy in this scenario.  Using the smallest focus square takes practice and needs the same accuracy, patience, and holding and breathing techniques as for rifle shooting.

Anyway, great shot. Lovely dog. Hope that helps.
