Hi, I'm resurecting an old thread because I just bought a second hand 17-55 which I have yet to test thoroughly. I was wondering if you could share what was wrong with the three versions of this lens you came upon? I will be using this for video mainly, I don't care much for AF. I've heard it's quite soft in the corners on the wide end, this can be nice. Anyways, just looking to know what I should be on the lookout for.
Cheers

The ones I tried we're all used, so perhaps that was my issue. At the time, a new lense was $1000+ in Canada. Used ones were $500-$700.

I found the build quality to be very disapointing for a $1k price tag. All 3 copies I tried had terrible lens creep and the lens barrel wobbled worse than my 18-55 non is kit lens.

Worst of all, all copies I tried we're pretty soft at f2.8 and at f5.6 IQ was no better than my 18-135 stm.

It was a pretty disapointing experience on my 80D. Oddly enough iq wise it was a better fit on my 12 mega-pickel 1100D.

As I say, all were used copies so maybe they were past their prime. I would never recommend this lens of a new APSC body, but for an old one it could be ok if you find a good copy.

That was my experience, hope yours is better...I'm sure many will disagree with my opinion.
