I was using a AF-S Nikkor 16-80 1:2.8-4E ED lens.

I mistakenly thought the exposure meter was just a meter when in fact it attempts to make the LCD picture like the exposure you'll actually get. I have to admit to not reading the D500 manual much as I have the Young and Busch books which I have read but neither say much about the exposure meter and I certainly can't find either of them saying it is exposure preview mode and not just a meter scale.

I know the Godox flash has a modelling light and I know it only works in AF-S and AF-Auto but so far I can only make it work from the hot shoe and not remotely via the X-Pro on the hot shoe even though I've turned on the modelling light setting on the X-Pro.
