Support for the R5 was out within 3 weeks. Camera profiles is different issue these days and has nothing to do with them being slow. There is no support for any cameras with CR3 files. There is something going on between Adobe and Canon.

Canon charges for DPP on iPad, so they are competing with Adobe in that space. Canon may be making a play into the services market (DPP, image.canon) which they view Adobe as a competitor so the camera specific profiles could be the “secret sauce” that Canon wants to keep to themselves to encourage use of their service products.

They're gonna have to add some features and a lot of speed to DPP to compete with LR or Photoshop. don't get me wrong - DPP is decent in terms of getting the images that Canon has imagined when designing the camera, and they're good. But it's slow, and it could use some additional controls as can be found in LR.
