So is there a reliable and not too complex way to test?

I would hesitate to accept the infamous brick wall shots.

In the old days I used a resolution test chart printed to A3 DIN size and had a mirror in the center to verify alignment.

Any better ideas?

Here’s a methodology I found useful.

Jim has been quite active in the forum here in the past. Even if you don’t use the test, the background reading is informative.

My recommendation: buy from a dealer that allows returns. Test immediately when you receive a new lens, and return it if it is unacceptable to you.

Jim’s blog has a number of examples of what he considers acceptable and unacceptable.
