they`re mostly old models too , some really ancient like the two Sonys and the G7 - the other two pans are 4 years old too . only the EPL10, M200 and XA7 are recent models ..

So yes, predecessors can be more appealing than successors, which is exactly what will happen if an M50mkII will have both the same sensor and processor as the current M50, and if the M50 will be discontinued, Canon will simply loose sales.

Nikon and Canon have, over the past few years, taken to cheapening their bottom-of-the-range cameras, leaving things like sensor self-cleaning off them.  Presumably they see those models as selling mostly on price, because they still sold.  Even if it's still the same basic machine underneath, it can still be made prettier, easier to use, lighter and easier to make.  Car and domestic appliance manufacturers have known this for decades.
