Lens Fungus can happen on any lenses.

If you go Canon forum, you can see thousands of post about Fungus glow in expensive L-lenses. There is no lens coating that can immune fungus glow.

My Tamron 70-200 F2.8 USD have fungus on the front elements in less than 4 years, but none of my other lenses have problem, include my 9 years old Sony 16-50 SSM. The front elements of my 16-50 are still like new without any problem.
