Although true, the customer needs a reason to get it over the MkI. And Mp is a metric used by a lot of customers (the marketing) to determine if it's a good camera or not.

They could make the M50 II a 24MP incremental upgrade, and discontinue the original M50. I think that's what they did with the M100/M200. The former is no longer listed as being for sale on the Canon USA Store.

I get that, but if i want an M100 i can get one either new or used. Canon would likely also sell some more if current M50 found the newer model appealing enough to upgrade, which is not the case with only 24Mp.
