Canon doesn't need to recycle the 80D sensor, again, here

What the rumors don't say is what sensor will be in it. I'd bet my lunch the M6 II sensor is...

(M50 II) I'm not placing any bets on that one. The T8i/850D only got the 24MP sensor.

They already have the 80D sensor in the existing M50 Mark; why bother with the mark II? DIGICX doesn't yield significant gains and what are they going to do about 4K crop?

They either have to do the 80D sensor with IBIS, or, the 90D sensor for the M50 Mark II to be a mark II. Otherwise it's a what's the point. The 90D sensor yields no crop 4K and is probably cheaper, and easier than an IBIS offering and besides most EF-M lenses either have IS, or don't need it. This is a pretty easy call from Canon's perspective.

Considering the 90D sensor will be a year old when this emerges (Q4 rumored), it's more likely with the upcoming M7 or whatever they call it, getting both IBIS, and the M6 II / 90D sensor, and a price tag to match it (think A6600 status) with the M50 Mark II getting the 32MP 90D sensor.

I get the naysaying around here as Canon's been big on sensor repurposing, but that's largely because they had no other choice. Now they do and the M6 II has been out for a while. I think it's strongly probable the M50 Mark II gets the 90D sensor this round.

.

Put simply, Canon has a choice here, instead of the 80D sensor and the 80D sensor, now they have the 90D sensor and 80D sensor. They'll do the 90D sensor... They really don't want to keep that 4K crop and they really would rather eat Sony's lunch with the M50 Mark II as they have to remain competitive and putting the 4 year old sensor in something that's going to be around for another 2 year cycle, is pushing it. They won't.
