In my experience the Camera Connect "solution" work like sh*t. I gave it up on both G5XII and EOS 90D (The later which I tried for a short period, but are back to 7DII for several reasons including this).
As far as I know, your G5XII and 90D are both equipped with Digic8, like the R and RP. GPS location transfer is done over Bluetooth. No need to manually log or transfer location info over WiFi. The Camera Connect app is confusing on this.
If you are asking if I had both BT and WiFi enabled, then no. Only BT.
And I don't use BT for anything else in general, so no other devices connected. Normally I have always BT (and WiFi too) disabled.
Not only does Camera Connect requires Bluetooth enabled on both devices, draining battery from both devices. The solution is also surprisingly unstable, unreliable and inaccurate.
Bluetooth, in general, is very low power.
I found severe battery drain on my phone. How much is from BT and how much is from GPS I don't know. Not important. Important for me is it lowers battery life of my phone which for me is much more critical and problematic than lowering battery life on camera. I have however noticed battery life on cameras degrade too.
BT connection between my EOS R and my LG phone is very stable. Are you running both your 90D and G5XII at the same time?
No, only one at a time.
But besides battery problem I found the gps-tagging via app to be imprecise and unstable. Even ignoring battery drain of phone, I cannot trust it.
