According to your logic, every mistake we make represents a normal brain function.

But i have to remind you that the main function of the brain is to keep the organism alive, in which case mistakes like "death by selfie" cannot ever be considered normal. The same rule extends to cover non-life threatening situations, even if they are less relevant.

By definition, "messing up"  represents a unforseen event which shouldn't have occured. Aka a mistake.
