Hello! I wanted to ask some thoughts about a fast fifty for a dx camera like my d7500. I was going to look to getting a 50 1.8G originally, but then seeing that used it should be only another hundred to get a 1.4g or the tamron 45 VC it got me thinking how those compare image quality wise.

Are you sure about that pricing? The U.S. prices I'm seeing are $200 for the 50mm f/1.8G and twice that for the f/1.4G or the Tamron.

Price aside, the biggest (literally) disadvantage I see to the Tamron is the size and weight. It's 520 grams, compared to 190 and 280 for the f/1.8 and f/1.4 Nikkors.

I was looking at used prices. 1.8gs seem to be about 120 on ebay, tamron about 250 and 1.4g around 200. so while 250 is double, it really isn't that much more.

I appreciate the feedback everyone.

I did forget to mention something probably rather important. I do have the 35 1.8 DX and the monstrous 17-55 2.8. Actually not sure about either of these. They were fantastic deals, so i jumped on them when i could to try them out. the 35 i've never been that impressed with at all actually. because it at 2.8 seems to be no different than the 17-55 at 35 and wide open at 2.8. or if that's just a testament to how goo d the 17-55 is (it's much better at close range subject than landscapes i found).

So, idk. The fringing issue on the tamron would bother me, i was thinking the 1.4g would be different enough, just to have fun with shooting at 1.4 for an 'effect' even if it's not all that sharp.
