Every now and again my EOS R produces a corrupt RAW file, shooting direct to a Sony G Series 64GB card, which is only apparent when imported into C1. I copy the images onto my HD using PhotoMechanic. Is this a sign of a failing camera, or just dumb luck? I had one of my original 5D's do this regularly, 14 years ago, and Canon swapped it.

Hi PhotoDM,

Firstly, I have no idea what the problem may be. However, have you checked the file in question is actually kaput and it's not a transient data copying thing? Three things that spring to mind are: does that image look different via the camera playback (albeit the camera produces a *.jpeg for review); try copying the same set of files from the card to a different directory and see if the same file corrupts, and lastly; maybe try a different RAW converter, e.g. Adobe DNG Converter, or DPP and, again, see if the same file is corrupt.

If the camera is producing the occasional corrupt file, it tends to point to an occasional problem - as suggested, maybe it's the SD card beginning to fail? (Hopefully not the R).

I can't think of anything else to try at this point, but good luck...

Phil
