Re: D800/D810 or D850 - help me make a call?

I've got all three - D800e, D810 and D850...

You've already had the D850. If you've not shot a D800/810 before, you may be disappointed. The autofocus is different from the older models. Likewise the frame rate. Overall it's just snappier.

I never had a D810 but have used a loaner. Otherwise, I still own both a D800e and a D850, among many other Nikon bodies. I tend to agree that once you have owned a D850, it maybe harder to move back to an older D8xx body. The Multi-CAM 20000 AF module on the D850 (and the D5 and D500) is far superior, and I have a bias towards XQD memory cards. I also prefer the current location of the ISO button,  next to the shutter release ....

The OP's original title seemed to suggest that another D850 were an option. If it is at all possible, I would get another D850. Otherwise, if it is just too expensive to own both a Sony A7r4 and a D850, I would opt for a D810. Typically the newer the body, the better it is. The D800/D800e feel slow in these days, although they are still ok cameras. I hope you have some CF cards for them. Otherwise, you can use SD cards only on both the Sony and any one of those Nikon.
