I doubt a plate makes an appreciable difference to the load on the tripod socket. You'd have to have a grip with a vertical spar that can help oppose the torque that essentially uses the front edge of the base plate as a pivot to lever the socket out of the body.

If I had a Mk III I'd probably use a beanbag and avoid tripods altogether, which is why I don't have a Mk III.
