........ indeed the AF-S 105mm F1.4 is a great lens but it's focus shift is excessive......

It can be clearly seen the point of focus wide open is (100) ....... even given the increasing DOF when stopping down focus cannot hold the "100" in focus .........

........ quite a slip up from Nikon.

This is the sheets!

Thanks very much sharing this.

This definitely enlightens things.

I'm so glad to still have my trusty,

Nikon AF-S 105mm f/2.8G VR lens.

Can see the bokeh fringing results,

at the below link to compare with.

Nailing the eye with a lens that shifts focus on a portrait lens that is designed especially to do that specific job......... is a slight irritation when changing apertures ..........

......... it's pity that part of the DSLR system doesn't include the ability to focus,   (eg a F1.4 lens) ....stopped down at F2/ F4 or F5.6 ..........

........... that would remove the focus shift issue and we could all live happily ever after

Unfortunately even when using D series lenses you can either choose AF at a chosen F stop from the body ...... or manual aperture from the lens ring......

It's not too difficult to do on a DSLR ............. to make the lens "AF at the chosen aperture" rather than from wide open ....... at least up to F5.6 where the problem has effectively disappeared ........... ......

Go on Nikon give us the above ......... the DSLR's last horrah !!

(PS It can still be an issue on ML cameras nonetheless)
