The ColorMunki Photo definitely can be used with the current i1Studio software; X-Rite recommends just that at https://www.xrite.com/service-support/product-support/calibration-solutions/colormunki-photo. I can personally report that it works great. Also, the newer software has some nice improvements over the older ColorMunki Photo software.
Last I checked, getting a ColorMunki Photo in good working order from a reputable seller on eBay for $120 would be tough. But with a bit of patience, $175 is possible, and with a lot of patience, maybe $150 - $160. But maybe they've gotten cheaper since then.
