Thank you all for reading the post and your responses.

Some folks have pointed out that the way I did the comparison was not really the correct way to compare performance of two lenses. I fully agree. As mentioned in the original post, main purpose was to try and understand how the lenses compare when used in a way that I use them in real life setting and whether the Oly lens would give me any benefit in my use case. I'm less interested in the raw lens optical performance as it may not directly translate to real life use performance benefit.

I'm still going to do a similar comparison but with a more distant target. Based on a few quick shots, the difference appears similar, but will still repeat with more shots in better light. Will also take the Oly lens out to meet the birds over the weekend.

Having handled the two lenses for a couple days now certainly makes me appreciate the Pana even more. It's such a compact lens, handles fantastically well and the dual IS an absolute marvel. My sample also does not suffer from the earlier reported zoom stiffness. In fact the two lenses have quite similar feel in the zoom mechanism.

The Oly, even though I felt the size difference between the two on paper was not significant, certainly feels bigger and perhaps a bit clumsier in use.
