You can't test sharpness using hand-held shots.

Of course you can. If you never use a tripod and shoot everything hand held than the comparison you want to see how the two lens compare under your normal shooting situations. The fact that one looks better when using a tripod doesn't rule out that the other may look better hand held. This is especially true given the number of IS combinations available.

Really, it doesn't make sense. Except maybe if you regret your purchase and you want to rationalize your remorse.
