Canon’s Japan website has quietly moved the M5 to the “discontinued” section. RIP.

Hopefully this is a sign that M5 mark II is coming, not that they will no longer produce a SLR-format midrange M body.

DPreview (this website) published the following:  They said that Canon told them that the M6 II effectively "replaces both the M5 and the M6".  So there's not going to be an M5 Mk II.

The M5 is retired but it was getting a little long in the tooth by now.  The M6 is likely to be retired as well (if it hasn't already).   The M50 will be next and we can only assume that a more relevant model will be released before the end of the year as suggested.  Otherwise March 2021 will be the next likely time-slot for a new model.  I have always suggested that the technology in the R series cameras will eventually trickle down into the M series.  But features like IBIS will be heavier and cause the cameras to become thicker in the body.  It is also possible that Canon will retain their IBIS only in the R-series bodies for the time being, to get more people to consider switching. That is simply speculation though and I feel confident that eventually IBIS will move to the APS-C bodies.  But it makes sense for Canon to hold back temporarily while they iron out any bugs in the R5/R6 models first - especially since this is 'new' technology they are applying.
