It's certainly disappointing but not a deal breaker if there is a workaround with phone. I don't gett all those people who are glad there is no GPS. Why? If you don't like it, don't want to use it, then turn it off. Same with touchscreen, same with video. It's always better to have options rather than being happy you have puristic bare bones camera body.

From technical standpoint it's not a problem to have low power GPS module, they are cheap, antennas aren't that big, phones have it after all. I see previous 5D has it. I got used Olympus TG-2 which has it and than ones has reputation for long battery life even with tiny compact camera battery, that model was released in 2013. It also has offline database of places which isn't that important but nice touch to see where it was taken on playback. There's no excuse to not offer GPS in high end, expensive camera. And all the other advanced processing features smartphones offer for some time.
