Three optimal times to go. Late September/early October for fall color hopefully with an early snow, but weekdays are best because of traffic and crowds on weekends. Early June is also very good as there is still snow on the peaks, but be sure to go after "mud season" as until the roads firm up there aren't a lot of options to get out of town. Mud season length depends on the amount of spring snow. Last, "wildflower season" in mid July.  The peak is quick and timing is different every year also with big crowds on weekends.  This requires beaucoup scouting because there are meadows that only bloom rarely.  One of my favorites (perhaps pictures next week) only explodes once every 4-5 years and seems to require two very heavy spring snow years to get going.
