What designers? With my X-rite software, on Mac, I can enter any Cd/m2 value my display can produce. It just happens to be 145. As requested and measured.

Do you need to recalibrate each time?

Calibration is part of the entire process (and I do this once a month); Cd/m2, White Point of the backlight, contrast ratio (setting black), TRC/Gamma etc. THEN an ICC profile is built reflecting all this for color managed applications to build previews.

Do you se the Mac changing brightens with brightness icon and level appearing on monitor?

Yes.
