I really love the V and I’m happy to have upgraded even from the F. That said, it sounds like you actually might want to upgrade your ILC more so.

If you’re leaving your D3500 at home/in the hotel while traveling (understandable), and forcing the 35mm lens to crop in, you’re probably better off getting the X-T2 and the 16-80. That way you have weather sealing, reach/versatility, and can still take your T everywhere without worrying about its shortcomings.

Thanks for the replies- both very valid . I'm aware that cropping a lot reflects shortcomings on my part but I suppose I'm trying to get one camera to do everything apart from wildlife/action - which is asking a lot of the T. I have the wlc but I tend to either have it on or off at the start if a walk- I don't use the T like an ilc.

Willhave a think about replacing the the d3500 with a smaller weather sealed ilc. ( I know it's light but still quite bulky). It would also mean changing the 70-300 lens and I think fuji options at the longer end are pretty expensive) . If only the xe3 were weather sealed- I do like the range finder look, and suspect it might be partly vanity on my part that stops me carrying the slr

I totally know what you mean. I first got my Panasonic GX9 for versatility/travel, but soon realized I was mostly using a pancake prime as often as possible, and that the IQ and UX weren't quite what I wanted. I became an X100 convert, and it covers 90% of my needs, especially now with a tilt screen a good video, which were advantages of the GX9 over the X100F.

I also like using the digital teleconverter for 50/70 FoV, so this covers even more range and versatility, especially with film sims in JPG (which I'm totally fine with). And I really value the compact, stylish package. I'm sure the T has the style and size factors down, but maybe it lacks in the MP/resolution IQ department? Not sure, but I also value having extra MP to play around with. The lens is also improved, so sharpness is better than the F, as is quickness.

I leave my GX9 at home until a major trip somewhere, at which point I have perhaps the opposite problem as your Nikon: it's very portable, but not as high IQ as I want if I go somewhere really special. So I will upgrade from m43 eventually, to either an X-Pro3 or a FF. Since there are no FF rangefnder-style camera bodies out there at the moment (and since I have no major trips planned anytime soon), I'm in no hurry. I wish Fuji would make one; the GFX 50R seems a bit too much for me (in many ways). I'm waiting for Panasonic to do it, but they're not coming through either...

I have no shame about valuing style and camera body type - I enjoy the inspiration and confidence they provide. I would never ever go back to a DSLR. So if these are priorities for you as well, embrace them!
