If Pentax-Ricoh have not included an articulated screen in the K-new, they will have taken the wrong decision - they will disappoint many of their loyal users, and they could lose some existing and some new customers.

There's no decision you can make that doesn't potentially cost either customers or profitability, or gain them. All design decisions are trade-offs, and most are calculated risks.

But the notion that K-7/5/3 legacy customers will leave in significant droves over the screen issue seems way overblown. I don't know that I've ever seen a Pentax shooter in the wild using the back screen as a viewfinder: my sense is that the Pentax customer base overwhelmingly uses the OVF to take pictures. If it's a big deal for astrophotography, then the KP has both astrotracing and interval astrotracing functions.

Would I like a articulated back screen? Yeah, probably. Would its absence give me a moment's hesitation about not upgrading from my K-3 or incentive for switching to another brand? Absolutely not.
